College Park Crit Returns Sunday
I wrote about Spin the District’s 2022 debut last week in Hapeville and wanted to pop back in to remind you the College Park Crit is this Sunday.
Much like last week’s race, Sunday’s course follows a tight, classic criterium circuit in downtown College Park. And there’s another free all-day party to go along with the races.
Last year, both crits on the Spin schedule were on back-to-back days. College Park gets a weekend all to itself this time around and it should make for some exciting racing. As I wrote last year, the criterium format makes for exciting action, lap after lap.
Criterium racing, or crits, takes cyclists out of remote, long-distance courses and puts them on closed downtown streets for fast-paced, lap races. It’s a style of racing that’s popular among casual and die-hard fans alike, with racers flying by frequently over the course of a race.
“The nice thing is you see the riders every two minutes,” said East Point Track Club President Michael Barman. “You get a real good feel of the speed and they come around quite often. You get a good idea of how fast they’re going and the race dynamics.”
I hope to see you there!
