We’re six months into the coronavirus pandemic and our Saturdays are starting to feel a lot like Tuesday or Wednesday.
So how do you break up the monotony at a social distance? Here’s a few local ideas for this weekend.
Dinner Plans
Friday, 4 p.m.
Have you seen Chef Keisa Carroll’s Good Azz Food? The freshly stamped and branded food truck is a Friday night staple in front of Beer Girl, with weekly specials from fried fish to Carroll’s take on a Philly Cheesesteak.
Carroll, who lives in Hapeville, started the business back in 2017 to offer southern food with a healthy twist. It’s been hard to miss her blue truck, whether around the Tri-Cities, throughout Atlanta or as far north as Alpharetta, bringing healthy alternatives to her favorite southern dishes to under-supported communities.
You can catch “food that is good as food can get” on most Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. outside Beer Girl. Pre-orders available at Caroll’s website.
Beer Chute!
Friday, 5 p.m.
We’ve all had to get creative these last few months, none more so than Beer Girl Growlers & Bottleshop on Central Avenue. Pivoting quickly from neighborhood haunt to curbside pickup, partners Alexia Ryan and Erik Lewis bring the Beer Girl weekend vibe back with the rollout of the Beer Chute and Funicular. A little PVC piping and a fun little cart puts canned and bottled beer, wine and soft drinks in your hands at a safe distance. And the crowd favorite? Sangria alcoholic slushies.
And, of course, Alexia and Erik still offer curbside pickup five days a week. You can browse inventory and email your order via their website.
Refuel
Saturday, 8 a.m.
Start Saturday off at Drip Coffee Shop. Open on Central Avenue in Hapeville from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekends, it’s the original local coffee shop with creative lattes, sweets and savory breakfast sandwiches.
Find Your Happy Place
Saturday, 8:30 a.m.
A few doors down from Drip is the Southside’s most inviting yoga studio, Sanskrit Moon. Founded by Hapeville resident Chandra Fowler, the center is open to all, whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or new to yoga.
Let Fowler and her team of accomplished yogis relieve the anxiety of being stuck in your home since March. You can even participate from your living room, with virtual and in-studio options available both Saturday and Sunday.
Treat Yo ‘self
Saturday, 12 p.m.
May I suggest a cupcake for lunch? Head to Kupcakerie in East Point for your sweet treat.
The neighborhood bakery run by Henry and Kascha Adeleye has been serving deliciousness around the Tri-Cities since 2014 before opening its storefront on Main St. in 2016. Offering more than a dozen varieties (with inventive names like The Main Squeeze and Peanut Butta Have My Chocolate), the Adeleyes also provide the sweetest quarantine activity in East Point: the decorate-your-own cupcake kit. They provide the naked canvas, buttercream and sprinkles, leaving you to do the assembly.
